Role Profile The role of the Laser Programmer / Machinist will primarily be responsible for developing, optimising, and maintaining the laser cutting programs for precision aerospace components. Alongside the programming aspect of the role, the Laser Programmer will also act as a machinist and will have the responsibility to run the machine to ensure maximum run time. This role requires strong technical expertise, knowledge of the relevant programming software, and an understanding of aviation industry standards to ensure high-quality, efficient, and compliant manufacturing processes. Key Accountabilities and Responsibilities Participate in a positive and proactive EHS culture throughout the site Follow all relevant Safe Systems of Work and report EHS concerns Create and prove out laser cutting programmes to ensure maximum uptime Set up and run the laser machine as required to produce high quality components Ensure the quality of the cut meets the required specifications and tolerances Develop tooling solutions and fixturing as needed Provide methods and technical support to other members of the team wherever necessary Ensure that full documentation is kept up to date detailing the path, featuring, and tooling information where required Contribute new ideas and positive support to the current processes by improving productivity Assist in solving manufacturing and quality issues utilising root cause and analysis tools Ability to fault find any low level issues that are encountered and implement any rectifications as required Conduct first article inspections and validate laser-cut parts against engineering specifications. Optimise programs for cycle time reductions Interpret engineering drawings and specifications to generate accurate laser cutting paths. Select appropriate cutting parameters (speed, power, assist gases, focus) based on material type, thickness, and part requirements. Collaborate with design, engineering, and production teams to improve manufacturability and reduce scrap/rework. Communicate with colleagues to ensure the smooth running of the manufacturing process. Working alongside the Laboratory, create, complete and train out data cards as per customer specifications. Support and participate in Continuous Improvement initiatives across Shop Operations Troubleshoot and resolve issues with laser programs, equipment, or part quality. Maintain program databases, documentation, and revision control. Provide technical support and training to machine operators as needed. Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives in cycle time reduction, process reliability, and cost efficiency.
