Job Title: Regional Buyer
Location: Cleckheaton (near Bradford) – covering Yorkshire & Chesterfield
Penguin Recruitment is working with a five-star housebuilder to recruit a Regional Buyer to support a portfolio of residential developments across Yorkshire and Chesterfield.
Based from the regional headquarters in Cleckheaton, this is a pivotal role providing a vital link between site teams, suppliers, technical teams, land teams and senior leadership. The successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring procurement efficiency, cost transparency and strong supply chain relationships across up to eight live developments.
The Role
The Regional Buyer will attend site visits and supplier meetings, proactively source new local suppliers, and ensure that materials and plant are procured efficiently and delivered in line with build programmes. Given the design-led nature of the developments, this role requires a meticulous and commercially focused individual with excellent attention to detail.
You will be responsible for creating and maintaining assessments, reports and tender schedules, providing full visibility of build costs at every stage. Monthly material assessments will be produced to ensure costs are controlled at all times.
Strong communication and negotiation skills are essential, as you will manage multiple internal and external relationships throughout the build process.
Key Responsibilities
1. Assisting with and negotiating price increases, deal terms and rebates
2. Communicating procurement deals with other regional buying teams
3. Producing tender documents, analysing tenders and appointing suppliers
4. Proactively identifying and sourcing new local suppliers
5. Building strong working relationships with site teams, suppliers and internal departments
6. Supporting the commercial function to ensure effective compliance and cost control
7. Assisting with supply chain partner management
8. Raising and managing material and plant orders
9. Ensuring all materials are scheduled, placed and delivered on time
10. Stock taking of materials across sites
11. Assisting with authorising and committing expenditure
12. Preparing cost analysis reports across developments
13. Resolving invoice queries with accounts and suppliers
14. Attending internal meetings, site meetings and pre-start meetings
15. Reviewing architects’ and engineers’ drawings for specification compliance
16. Resolving technical and specification queries with consultants and internal teams
17. Ensuring correct specifications are used at all times
Candidate Requirements
18. HNC/HND (or equivalent) in a construction-related discipline
19. Minimum 5 years’ experience in a Buyer role or similar within construction or housebuilding
20. Strong negotiation skills
21. Full UK driving licence
22. Excellent time management and organisational skills
23. Good understanding of health and safety requirements
