SEN Teaching Assistant - Reception & Year 1 (Small Group Support) Location: Selly Oak, Birmingham, B29 Weekly Pay: £460 - £500 Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:30 am to 3:30 pm (term time only) Start Date: 03/11/2025 Contract: Long-term, Temp-to-PermLong Term Futures is seeking a calm, consistent, and supportive SEN Teaching Assistant to work with a small group of pupils across Reception and Year 1, primarily supporting children with complex needs, communication and sensory needs. This is a full-time position within a warm and inclusive primary school in Selly Oak offered on a long term basis with the potential to become permanent for the successful candidate. The role will involve: Providing targeted 1:1 and small-group support for pupils with ASD and additional learning needs Using visual supports, structured routines, and sensory strategies to aid engagement and understanding Supporting communication using methods such as Makaton, PECS, and visual timetables Encouraging emotional regulation and independence through the Zones of Regulation and other approaches Collaborating closely with class teachers, the SENCO, and external professionals to deliver consistent, high-quality support Helping pupils develop social interaction and play skills within a nurturing and structured environment What the school is looking for: Experience: Minimum of 1 year supporting children with ASD or complex SEN Skills: Strong understanding of autism strategies, sensory processing, and behaviour regulation techniques Approach: Patient, consistent, and proactive with a calm and nurturing demeanour Qualifications: Level 2 or 3 Teaching Assistant qualification preferred About the school: Located in Selly Oak, B29 Warm, modern, and inclusive primary school with a strong SEN ethos One-form entry Passionate and supportive SENCO who values teamwork and ongoing training Highly regarded for its inclusive approach to supporting children with autism and additional needs How to apply: This is a rewarding opportunity for someone passionate about supporting children with ASD and making a lasting difference to their school experience.
