Job Description
We are seeking a Clinical Research Fellow in the Division of Surgery. The successful candidate will deliver a general surgical clinical service at SHO / core trainee level, participating in a regular general surgical on‑call slot and working on a 50/50 split between research and clinical commitments.
Key Responsibilities
* Provide inpatient and outpatient care for general surgical patients, including pre‑operative assessment, surgery and post‑operative care.
* Supervise junior medical staff and conduct daily ward rounds and formal consultant ward rounds.
* Assist consultants in the operating theatre and undertake independent surgical lists where appropriate.
* Complete a research project under the supervision of experienced academics and support ongoing trials.
* Participate in clinical audit, quality improvement and teaching activities for junior trainees, medical students and nursing staff.
* Submit and maintain a portfolio including an operation logbook.
Qualifications
* GMC registration
* Prior experience in general surgery
* Interest in research
Preferred
* Prior NHS experience
* Completion of MRCS
* Prior research experience and/or publications

* Full‑time post with a planned 1‑year initial contract, with potential renewal for 1–2 additional years.
* Annual leave: 27 days, study leave up to 30 days (15 internal, 15 external).
* Work supported by a work‑time plan that splits research and clinical work roughly 50/50.
