Job summary


We are looking for compassionate Health Care Support Workers to provide flexible support across community nursing, phlebotomy and the community independence services depending on demand.

In this role you will ensure that patients receive safe, individualised and effective standards of care by following care plans and treatment interventions as delegated by the registered Nurse or Therapist. You will work with the multidisciplinary team to support the delivery of care to patients within their own home environment.

The working hours for this role are Monday to Friday 8am - 4pm and you will be expected to work across the Southampton and South West Division.


Main duties, tasks & skills required


Carry out venepuncture as required by the domiciliary phlebotomy service and deliver to the appropriate setting for analysis

Working under indirect supervision, deliver nursing care to patients following prescribed care plans and protocols. Reporting any progress or deterioration to the nurse in charge.

Deal empathetically with sensitive information.

Safely manage self including:

* Lone working in the community
* Handling body fluids and other hazardous material
* Patient handling
* Medical sharps
* Complex social situations and behaviours
* Driving self

Person specification



Qualifications



Essential


Healthcare qualification NVQ Level 3 or working towards gaining an equivalent level.

Good basic education or GCSE in English and Maths.


Desirable


Experience in either a hospital or community setting.

Can demonstrate a basic understanding of the needs of the patient and the role of the Phlebotomist

Working within a multidisciplinary team.

Excellent communication skills (written and oral), requirement to receive routine information with patients/clients which may need some tact, reassurance, persuasion where there may be barriers to understanding.

Ability to manage own time, plan and prioritise work efficiently and effectively.

Ability to show empathy and deal empathically and tactfully when communicating with patents, carers and clients.

Ability to act on own initiative e.g responding to an emergency.

Ability to work independently when on visits, demonstrating sound thought process for basic problem solving.

Confident in dealing with complex situations e.g. when faced with complex behaviour.

Knowledge of care and related procedures including clinical observations, judgement required involving facts and situations when assessing patients and knowledge when to escalate information to qualified staff.

Willingness to develop clinical skills and competency relevant to the role e.g. phlebotomy skills

Good organisational skills.

Shows flexibility and ability to work within a demanding and changing environment.

Basic computer skills e.g. Word, Outlook, System One.
