Role Overview
Senior Engineering Manager will lead the in‑house maintenance team, manage the Engineering Department, ensure all building services and equipment comply with statutory legislation and guidance, and support NHS patient care.
Key Responsibilities
Communication
* Respond to complaints and concerns regarding services or equipment maintenance.
* Participate in Trust committees and provide engineering‑related reports.
* Maintain accurate written records and communicate consistently with relevant stakeholders.
* Liaise with the Trust Medical Device Management Group and MHRA.
* Coordinate with safety inspectors, risk managers and H&S representatives.
* Engage with Estates colleagues and the wider Trust on statutory and NHS guidance.
Review & Audit
* Identify and evaluate opportunities for service improvement.
* Prepare management reports on engineering services, risk and performance.
* Lead and participate in audits and standard reviews.
* Monitor use of complex engineering systems to meet demands and clinical safety.
* Investigate and report on complaints from patients, visitors and staff.
* Ensure compliance with HSE guidance and Approved Codes of Practice.
Development
* Manage own professional development and support team training.
* Hold monthly one‑to‑one meetings with direct reports.
* Delegate tasks according to staff skills and ambitions.
* Facilitate staff appraisals and personal development plans.
* Encourage and adopt improvement ideas from staff.
Management
* Overall responsibility for the Engineering Department and compliance with statutory legislation.
* Produce and implement departmental procedures and contribute to Trust policies.
* Recruit, appoint, induct, train and retain staff, chair interview panels.
* Manage budgets, energy usage, carbon emissions and financial performance.
* Prepare reports, efficiency schemes and business cases for sustainability.
* Deputise for the Assistant Director of Estates when required.
Benefits & Working Hours
37.5 hours per week Monday to Friday, with on‑call duties and payments. NHS pension, 27 days holiday, and standard NHS benefits.
