Job summary
An opportunity has arisen to join our team at Ipswich Hospital in the musculoskeletal team. We are inviting applications for a full-time Consultant in Rheumatology at Ipswich Hospital, but part-time applications can also be considered.
Applicants will have completed CCT or equivalent (Portfolio Pathway) and must be on the Specialist Register.

Main duties of the job
The post-holder will:
1. Work with colleagues to provide a consultant-led service with the highest standard of care
2. Work with the multi-professional team to develop care pathways and clinical guidelines
3. Develop and maintain good working practices within wards, outpatients and A&E
4. Collaborate and promote close working links with colleagues in tertiary centres, community services and primary care
5. Offer support and leadership to junior medical colleagues, nursing colleagues and other members of the multi-disciplinary team

Job responsibilities
The key duties and responsibilities are:
1. Participation in Consultant rota for ward referrals, advice, guidance, and referral triage during working hours (9am-5pm). No out-of-hours Rheumatology On-call Service and no weekend cover.
2. Outpatient clinics
3. Specialist clinics if desired by the applicant
4. Supportive care of inpatients under other medical teams
5. Clinical and administrative duties as required
6. Teaching and training of junior staff and undergraduates
7. Participation in Clinical Governance, Audit, and Quality Improvement
8. Participation in relevant MDT meetings
Person Specification
Essential
* Full GMC Registration with License to practice
* MRCP (UK)
* Specialist accreditation or within 6 months of attaining CCT
* Clinical training and experience equivalent to UK CCST in Rheumatology
* Ability to offer expert clinical opinion on a wide range of Rheumatology problems
* Ability to take full and independent responsibility for patient care
* Ability to work in a team
* Full Driving Licence and access to a car
* Effective communication skills with patients, relatives, GPs, nurses, and other agencies
Desirable
* Research experience
* Higher degree MD/PhD
* Recognised fellowship training
* Management training and experience
* Live within 10 miles of the hospital
