Job Overview
The Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust is seeking a permanent Consultant Ophthalmologist with a sub-specialist interest in Oculoplastic. The role is primarily based at the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital (RSH) in Shrewsbury, with responsibilities across both hospital sites.
Contribution to an out-of-hours on-call rota is a core aspect of this role.
Main duties of the job
* Provide Ophthalmic services.
* Conduct clinical sessions in theatre, specialist Oculoplastic clinics, and general clinics.
* Engage in supporting professional activities.
* Manage referrals from urgent eye clinics, optometrists, and other ophthalmic colleagues.
* Develop enhanced clinical skills, particularly in assessing and managing acutely ill patients.
* Work effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
* Achieve clinical and quality targets set both nationally and locally.
* Follow patients throughout their clinical pathways.

Detailed Job Description and Main Responsibilities
A formal job plan will be agreed upon within three months of appointment, outlining duties, responsibilities, and objectives for the year. The full-time plan is based on a 10 PA working week, with annual reviews. It includes clinical work, teaching, research, education, and managerial responsibilities.
For full-time employment, the weekly schedule typically includes:
* 7.5 Programmed Activities (PAs) for Direct Clinical Care, including clinical activities, emergency work, and on-call duties (1 in 9 weeks, attracting 0.5 PA).
* 2.5 PAs for Supporting Professional Activities, including CPD, supervision, audit, teaching, research, revalidation, and service development.
Part-time applicants will have proportional adjustments. Modifications of job content will be discussed if personal circumstances prevent full-time work.
