The NHSL IMH Team is part of the Scottish Government national programme of development of Infant Mental Health Services in all NHS Boards across Scotland, as part of the government’s Mental Health Strategy. In the IMH Service under development within NHS Lanarkshire, there is a primary emphasis on an infant centred and infant focused approach to all aspects of infant mental health service design and delivery.

The post holder will be a core member of the IMH Team and together with other members of the team will be involved in work with, and consultation to, the network around the infant; team assessments of referred infants; delivering direct parent–infant interventions; contributing to IMH training to other professionals and agencies; and promoting professional awareness and understanding of infant mental health. A specific role and contribution of the Early Years Practitioner in the team will be to liaise and link with Early Years service providers, and to promote and enhance understanding amongst parents, as well as locality Early Years services, of the mental health needs and difficulties of individual infants referred to the NHSL IMH Team.

A special interest and additional post-qualification training in infant mental health (e.g. Solihull, NHSL Infant Mental Health Course) are desirable.

Additional Information Specific to the Role

The post holder will be employed by the local authority and seconded to the NHSL Infant Mental Health Team. Line management and supervision will be through the NHSL Infant Health Team however the postholder will be employed under the terms and conditions of North Lanarkshire Council local government employees and therefore abide by North Lanarkshire policies and practices.

Work Pattern : Monday to Friday - between the hours of 8am-6pm, flexible to meet the needs of the service
