Overview of the Assistant Principal Contracts Lawyer position
Sellick Partnership are delighted to be currently recruiting an experienced Assistant Principal Contracts Lawyer to join a busy but friendly London Council. Our client is looking for an Assistant Principal Lawyer who has experience dealing with a variety of commercial contracts and procurement matters to join their team on a permanent basis. This opportunity is on a hybrid working basis, with a preference for one to two days per week in the office. Our client is ideally seeking someone who is able to work full-time hours. This role is an excellent opportunity for an experienced, qualified contracts lawyer seeking career progression and the chance to develop their skills in a management role.
Key responsibilities of the Assistant Principal Contracts Lawyer
* Dealing with matters relating to commercial contracts and procurement, including:
o The new procurement act
o Construction contracts
o Framework agreements
o Provider selection regime and contracts relating to public health
* To deputise for the Principal Lawyer when required
* To advise on high-profile matters, including advising elected members at council meetings in a proactive and politically sensitive manner
* To act as a senior liaison point for clients and to line manage, provide professional support, supervision and development for colleagues in the Contracts and Procurement team
Experience/qualifications required for the Assistant Principal Contracts Lawyer position
* Must be a qualified Lawyer (Solicitor, Barrister or CILEx) with a current practicing certificate - all PQE levels will be considered
* Able to work on a hybrid basis, one to two days per week in the office
* This role ideally requires someone who can work full-time hours; part-time requests will be considered
* You must have strong experience in contracts law, ideally within a local authority setting, with a strong knowledge of local authority governance
