The role is full‑time, permanent, and based in Salisbury District Hospital while employment will be with UHS.
Detailed Job Description And Main Responsibilities
The WGLS is an integrated genomics testing service that operates from Salisbury District Hospital and University Hospital Southampton. You will join our diagnostic team committed to patient‑centred service provision through accurate and timely data analysis, interpretation, and reporting of genomic information. Your responsibilities include:
* Providing a high‑quality clinical diagnostic service on diagnoses and treatment of patients by the analysis, interpretation and reporting of clinical results.
* Providing expert analytical and advisory service nationally, on request.
* Co‑ordinating and initiating development and research as a major job role.
* Overseeing the quality of service, making decisions and implementing policies as a Principal Clinical Scientist.
* Training staff to ensure compliance with professional standards.
* Performing local, regional and national audits and implementing their findings.
* Re‑liaising regularly with clinical users to ensure delivery of a high‑quality diagnostic service and improved clinical governance.
* Supervising Scientist Training Programme staff, Specialist Registrars in training for the FRCPath and Biomedical Scientists.

Qualifications / Training Required
Essential criteria
* Honours degree in a scientific subject
* MSc in a relevant discipline or equivalent level of knowledge
* HCPC Registration as a Clinical Scientist with evidence of further specialist training
Desirable criteria
* PhD or FRCPath Part 1
Previous or Relevant Experience
Essential criteria
* Postgraduate laboratory experience in Genomics
* Experience and competence in reporting of complex genomic results
Desirable criteria
* Experience in audit, development and project work
* Experience in research publications in a relevant field
