We are working exclusively with a leading, rapidly expanding Quantity Surveying Consultancy to identify a highly experienced Associate Director to join their senior team. The business operates across major infrastructure projects and programmes throughout the UK, with a strong presence in utilities, energy, nuclear, and other critical process sectors. They provide commercial management, cost consultancy, and project management services to clients on high-profile, complex programmes.
This is an exciting opportunity for a candidate based in Cambridge (or surrounding areas) to take a senior leadership role, contributing to strategic business growth, delivering complex infrastructure projects, and supporting the development of a rapidly expanding team. The role is primarily office-based in Cambridge, with occasional travel to client offices and project sites.
The consultancy is rapidly expanding, aiming to grow its presence in the East of England, North West, and South, building highly skilled teams to support long-term frameworks and multi-year programmes. This is a chance to take a senior leadership role, influencing commercial strategy and mentoring a growing team of Quantity Surveyors.
Key Responsibilities
Lead and manage a commercial team, ensuring high-quality delivery on infrastructure projects.
Undertake fee-earning work on major programmes, providing cost advice, commercial risk management, and contract administration.
Support business development and client relationship management, assisting in winning new commissions.
Assist in strategic business planning, including budgets, fee forecasts, and team growth objectives.
Mentor and guide team members to support career development and succession planning.
Ensure projects are delivered profitably, on time, and within contractual and regulatory requirements.
Maintain awareness of commercial and project risks, implementing proactive mitigation strategies.
Candidate Criteria
Chartered Member of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (MRICS) or equivalent.
BSc in Quantity Surveying or equivalent.
10–15 years’ experience in Quantity Surveying, including senior leadership experience.
Extensive experience with NEC3/NEC4 contracts and major infrastructure projects.
Strong commercial awareness and ability to support business development.
Excellent communication, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills.
Proven ability to lead, manage, and develop high-performing teams.
Willingness to travel occasionally to client offices and project sites.
Ambitious, professional, and dedicated with a desire to grow into a board-level leadership role in the future.
