Youlearn about topics you've never explored before and solve complex technical problems within industries from food and drink to energy, cosmetics, manufacturing, consumer goods, health or medicines.Working closely with other specialists whose background may be in organic chemistry, public health, theoretical physics, chemical engineering or veterinary medicine, you'll get an opportunity to greatly expand your thinking, gain insights into various specialisms and see how they interconnect in a holistic project setting. Weprovide training so can hit the ground running.Key ActivitiesAs a Summer Intern, you will spend most of your time working on the innovation challenges faced by our clients. Youtypically work on 2-3 projects at once, and the nature of these projects can be remarkably varied, but here is a list of key things you will be doing:Bringing your technical skills and creativity to innovation challengesCollaborating closely with colleagues from different fields to solve broad and complex problemsConducting desk-based research (e.g., literature reviews) and primary research (qualitative and quantitative)Creating new ideas, insights, and models, and transferring this thinking between different applications and industriesChallenging conventional thinking and industry-specific assumptionsHelping to structure and create presentations for colleagues and clientsWhat WeLooking ForThe description below should also provide some insights into the role.It is important that you:Have a background in one of these areas: Engineering, Medicine, Veterinary medicine, Life sciences, Physics, Materials science and Soft Matter, Chemistry, Business and EconomicsPsychology andBehavioural sciences.Have at least completed the third year of your undergraduate degree by summer 2026. We accept applications from postgraduate students who are graduating in 2026.Evidenced by your academic performance, you must have passed or be on track to pass your current undergraduate or graduate degree.Demonstrate a strong understanding of the fundamental principles of your subject, and the ability to apply them to unfamiliar problems.Are keen to work in a dynamic commercial and client focussed environment.Have a strong interest in collaborative teamwork and have good communication skills.Are comfortable giving your considered opinion on complex questions, and taking part in lively discussions.Have excellent timekeeping and task management skills, to be able to take responsibility for your own work and time.Have an interest in applying your creativity across a wide range of industries, and the ability to quickly learn about new areas.Demonstrate commitment to valuing diversity and contributing to an inclusive, collaborative working and learning environment.Important Practical ConsiderationsOffice attendance: Our Summer Internships are full-time roles undertaken in-person at our Cambridge UK offices.Remote working: Unfortunately, this internship is not suitable for applicants who wish to work remotely.Hours: 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday.Tech: We use Macbooks for work. As a Summer Intern, youworking directly on commercially sensitive projects. You will need to maintain confidentiality both during and after your internship. If your academic program requires you to document or present your internship experience in detail, please consider this carefully before applying. We will help you summarise your work for your CV and interviews, in ways that work for you, our business, and our clients.Interview ProcessAt interview, we focus on thoroughly testing your deep knowledge of your subject fundamentals the expertise which is most transferable to different applications - and how you're able to apply this to unfamiliar real-world situations. Our interview process is designed to test your abilities and explore the limits of your understanding. We donexpect you to know the answers to all the questions you might be asked - but we are interested to find out how you approach these problems and whether you are able to give them a go.30-minute technical interview via Zoom, exploring your understanding of subject-specific fundamentals.If you are selected to progress to the next stage, you'll be invited to a final interview.
