We are seeking an individual to join the NHS Fife Research & Development (R&D) Team, part of the Research, Innovation & Knowledge Department. This role involves supporting R&D research nurses and clinical investigators in the delivery of clinical trials and research projects across NHS Fife.
Key responsibilities include assisting with the monitoring and support of research participants, as well as collecting, documenting and accurately managing research data. You will also provide a comprehensive administrative support service and collaborate with local investigators and multidisciplinary teams. Under the supervision of experienced R&D research nurses, you will manage your own caseload of follow-up participants and assist in the organisation and set-up of new studies and trials.
The post is primarily based at Victoria Hospital, Kirkcaldy with regular travel to Queen Margaret Hospital and other NHS Fife sites.
While previous experience in clinical trials is desirable, it is not essential. A basic understanding of research principles - such as confidentiality, randomisation, informed consent, and ethical considerations - is expected. Strong planning, organisational, and IT skills are essential, along with excellent attention to detail and the ability to work effectively as part of a team.
This is a 21-month fixed term post in the first instance, with the potential for extension depending on activity.
Existing permanent employees must first discuss this opportunity with their substantive line manager. The secondment policy can be found here If you do not have approval for a secondment from your current line manager, you will not be able to progress your application for a fixed term post. External applicants, with continuous NHS Service, must also have in place a secondment agreement, from their existing board to apply for this post.
For informal enquiries, please contact Karen Gray, Lead Nurse, Research and Development on 07867 331576 or email karen.gray14@nhs.scot.
NHS Fife is legally obliged to ensure all its employees are legally entitled to work in the United Kingdom. If you are not a United Kingdom (UK) or Irish National, you are required to confirm your right to work in your application.
To work in the United Kingdom, there is a legal requirement for an individual to demonstrate that they have the relevant permission to work in the country. This permission is, without exception, granted by the UK Visa and Immigrations Service.
As part of the pre-employment checks for a preferred candidate, NHS Scotland Boards will check your entitlement to work in the UK. It can be evidenced through a number of routes including specific types of visa as well as EU settled and pre-settled status. To find out more about these routes of permission, please refer to the GOV.UK website here.
For specific types of post, if you do not have the necessary eligibility to work in the UK, it might be possible (though not guaranteed) to secure sponsorship via a UK Skilled Worker/Health & Care Worker Visa. However, this is only possible if the employer is a licenced Sponsor, and if the post does not fall below the current minimum salary threshold or ‘going rate’. Further information on these criteria can be foundhere.
It is ESSENTIAL that you have checked that you either already have an appropriate right to work in the UK or that the post would be eligible to be sponsoredBEFORE submitting your application form.
Due to legislative changes from 1 April 2025, this post may require a different level of criminal records check done than is currently the case. If the post is assessed as a "regulated role", your appointment will be subject to joining the Protecting Vulnerable Groups (PVG) Scheme. If there is any change to what is currently required, this will be confirmed by either the Hiring Manager or the Recruitment Team. For more details on these changes please visit: Disclosure Scotland Changes.
We offer flexible working and family-friendly policies and fully support disabled candidates, and candidates with long-term conditions or who are neurodivergent by making reasonable adjustments to our recruitment policy and practices.
NHS Scotland is committed to encouraging equality and diversity among our workforce and eliminating unlawful discrimination. The aim is for our workforce to be truly representative and for each employee to feel respected and able to give their best. To this end, NHS Scotland welcomes applications from all sections of society.
