Job Description
New Directions Education are looking to appoint flexible and adaptable Fluent Welsh Exam Invigilators, to
work on an ad hoc, seasonal basis, supporting schools and colleges across South Wales.
The positions available are part-time and will usually include either a morning or an
afternoon shift, (e.g., 8:30am – 11:30am or 12:30pm – 3:30pm).
The successful candidate will be professional, able to follow instructions and willing to work
in different schools in the area, to provide support to the examination process.
There will also be some requirement to work as a reader or scribe to support students with
access arrangements, therefore excellent verbal and written communication skills are
essential.
Previous experience is not required; however, all applicants will need to provide employment
references within the last 2 years. Offer of work is subject to a vigorous vetting process to
ensure suitability to work with children.
Job Specification
The main purpose and objective of the Exam Invigilator role is to provide support to the examination process.
The principle duty of the role is to support the Head Invigilator/Examinations team with the day-to-day operation of examination venues. This may include:
1. Assisting with setting up examination venues by laying out stationery, equipment and examination papers in accordance with the outlined procedures
2. Assisting candidates prior to the start of examinations by directing them to their seats and advising them about possessions permitted in examination venues
3. Offering advice and guidance to unregistered candidates without allocated seats
4. Ensuring that candidates do not talk once inside the examination venue
5. Invigilating during examinations, dealing with queries raised by candidates and dealing with examination irregularities in accordance with strict procedures
6. Checking attendance during examinations
7. Recording details of early leavers and collecting their scripts
8. Escorting candidates from the examination venue during the examinations as required, and supervising candidates while outside the examination venue
9. Collecting and collating scripts at the end of the examination in accordance with strict procedures
10. Assisting with the preparation of script envelopes
11. Supervising candidates leaving examination venues, ensuring that candidates do not remove equipment or stationery from the venue without authorisation and ensuring that candidates leave venues in an orderly and quiet manner
12. Assisting the examinations team with other examination processes, such as: Packing of examination papers, stationery and equipment prior to the examinations and the delivery to and from venues as appropriate Preparation of seating plans Delivering scripts to departmental and school offices.
