Main duties of the job We are looking for a proactive and knowledgeable Energy Manager to join our Estates and Facilities team. This is an exciting opportunity to make a measurable impact on the Trust’s journey to environmental sustainability and Net Zero, while also improving operational efficiency. In this role, you will act as the Trust’s professional adviser on all sustainability and energy matters. You will lead the day-to-day management of energy and utility contracts and work on strategic energy and environmental projects across our estate. Detailed Job Description And Main Responsibilities YOUR MAIN DUTIES Main Duties and Responsibilities Manage operational and strategic elements of the Trust’s energy and utilities contracts. Provide expert advice to senior leadership on energy strategy, procurement, and sustainability initiatives. Drive energy efficiency improvements and behavioural change Trust-wide. Ensure compliance with legislation and support audits and statutory reporting (e.g. ERIC, PAM). Support the implementation of an Environmental Management System (e.g. ISO 14001, ISO 50001). Produce clear, accurate, and timely reports for internal use and external publication using STARK Collaborate with Estates teams, clinical services, and corporate departments to embed sustainable practices. Essential WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Energy Management, Environmental Sustainability, Engineering, or a related discipline. Experience in energy and sustainability management within large organisations. Good understanding of utility markets, energy contracts, and compliance frameworks. Proficiency in data analysis and report production. Excellent stakeholder engagement and communication skills. Desirable Membership of a professional institution (e.g. EMA). Project management qualification and experience. Knowledge of NHS-specific energy reporting and sustainability requirements. Experience with behavioural change programmes and ISO accreditation systems. Person specification Qualifications, Knowledge And Experience Essential criteria Ability to access all areas of the buildings and grounds. Climb vertical ladders to open roof areas, inside chimneys and into engineering services ducts. Work in cramped and confined spaces in the ducts. Climb and work at height from open scaffold. Professional knowledge to Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent in a relevant field e.g. Energy Management, Environmental Sustainability or an Engineering/Buildings/Estates related discipline Good working knowledge of technologies associated with energy management, sustainability management/development, carbon reduction, waste reduction, water/utility management etc. Able to calculate and clearly report on usage, options appraisals Previous experience in energy, utility and sustainability management Good working understanding of the energy and utility markets. Good knowledge of and experience of working within sustainability legislation, advising on regulatory issues, technical and managerial solutions, Knowledge of operational planning techniques including forecasting, option appraisal, feasibility studies, business case preparation and service modelling Desirable criteria Project management qualification Professional membership of an appropriate professional institution e.g. EMA. Expertise in environmental/energy legislation and statutory compliance. Experience in a large acute healthcare setting Knowledge of energy contract structure options Energy procurement experience.
