Food Technology Teacher (SEND)
Type: Permanent (via trial contract)
Dates: September 2025
Location: Cheltenham
Pay: £162.31 - £251.71 per day
Our client is a new & expanding Alternative Education Provision, serving primary & secondary-aged pupils with EHCPs relating to SEMH based in Cheltenham and surrounding Gloucestershire areas.
We are seeking a specialist / experienced teacher specialising in Food Technology and ideally someone with previous experience working with learners that have SEMH and have experienced trauma, who may have other needs relating to ASC / ASD. The ideal candidate will be able to act as a positive role model and deliver an alternative education curriculum. We look for individuals skilled in recognising the emotional and educational needs of learners and who can respond to and create appropriate learning activities & opportunities tailored to individual needs. Many learners have not engaged in education for a significant time, so an individual approach for each child is necessary. Empathy and patience are key traits for this setting.
Unqualified teachers / Instructors (teachers without QTS / QTLS) can be considered for this role, provided they have the right experience & skillset. The salary scale for unqualified teachers is different (& TBC).
If you have training in positive behaviour management such as Team Teach / PBM / MAPA and/or THRIVE training, we would be particularly interested in hearing from you. Practical experience working with children displaying challenging behaviour is desirable. Successful applicants will be offered free Team Teach training, which will be a requirement of the post.
The full-time working day is from 8:30 am to 4:00 pm, Monday to Friday.
We would love to hear from candidates who have:
* Experience working with children overcoming barriers and difficult situations
* The ability to engage parents in supporting children at home, including setting boundaries and managing behaviour
* The desire to undergo training and implement new ideas
* A passion for working with young people in education
* A good understanding of effective intervention strategies
* Commitment to safeguarding young people and helping them overcome difficulties
* A drive to ensure students maximize every opportunity to achieve academically and personally
* The ability to work within a dynamic and challenging environment
* Excellent communication and teamwork skills
This role offers training opportunities, progression within the organization, and the chance to be part of a supportive team with expansion plans.
