Silverwood - A brand-new mental health inpatient unit

As we prepare to unveil Silverwood Hospital, in Chertsey, Surrey, we're looking for Consultant Psychiatrists to join us by building & leading your own team in our purpose-built facility, designed to provide optimal care for the people who use our services. You will be responsible for providing clinical input & leadership, working alongside a multidisciplinary team in line with New Ways of Working.

The team will support the Consultant by triaging of referrals, completing initial assessments, liaising & collaboratively working with other professionals. The Consultants will also be provided with support from middle grade doctors for these posts.

Our offer:

1. Salary: NHS Consultant Grade £99,532 - £131,964 + £149 fringe, + on-call payments

Person Specification
Qualifications
Essential

10. MB BS or equivalent recognised medical qualification
11. Full medical registration with a license to practice
12. Approval under Section 12 of the Mental Health Act(or within 6 to 12 months of the time of interview/assessment) or equivalent

Desirable

13. Relevant higher degree, e.g. MD, PhD, MSc or other additional clinical qualifications
14. MRCPsych or equivalent
15. Management qualification or evidence of an interest in developing leadership skills.

Eligibility
Essential

16. Fully registered with the GMC with a licence to practise at the time of appointment.
17. Included on the GMC Specialist Register OR within six months

Desirable

18. In good standing with GMC concerning warnings and conditions on practice
19. Approved clinician status OR able to achieve within three months of appointment

Clinical Skills, Knowledge & Experience
Essential

20. Knowledge of Risk Management
21. Knowledge of legislation, Department of Health Guidance and literature and its implications for clinical practice
22. Knowledge of NHS strategic vision in the Next Stage Review (High-Quality Care for All)
23. Ability to use IT, including email and the internet
24. Excellent clinical skills using bio-psycho-social perspective and wide medical knowledge
25. Excellent oral and written communication skills in English
26. Ability to manage clinical complexity and uncertainty
27. Make decisions based on evidence and experience, including the contribution of others
28. Ability to meet duties under MHA and MCA
29. Experience working with various patient groups presenting with the full range of clinical severity across different care settings, including community, inpatient, and specialist teams
30. Evidence of active participation in Continuous Professional Development
31. Evidence of effective multidisciplinary team involvement and experience
32. Knowledge of psychiatric provision
33. Commitment to and experience in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching
34. Ability to critically appraise published research
35. Experience in carrying out a range of audit projects

Desirable

36. Wide range of specialist and sub-specialist experience relevant to post within NHS or comparable service
37. Experience in management
38. Ability to develop and use complex multimedia materials for presentation in public, professional and academic settings
39. Specific training qualification/certificate or attendance on a recognised teaching course
40. Peer review or research publications
41. Published audit or research projects

Academic Skills & Lifelong Learning
Essential

42. Ability to take a clinical leadership role in a multidisciplinary team, ensuring high-quality care
43. Skills in managing time and prioritising clinical work
44. Ability to appraise own performance as a Speciality Doctor and reflect on development needs
45. Skills and sensitivity in negotiating with patients, relatives, and other professionals where opinions differ
46. Skills in providing consultation to other professional groups under New Ways of Working
47. A high-level ability to communicate effectively at both a written and oral level complex and clinically sensitive information to patients, their families, carers and a wide range of lay and professional people within and outside the NHS
48. Participated in continuous professional development
49. Participated in research or service evaluation
50. Has actively participated in clinical audit and quality improvement programmes
