Engineering Technician – Baggage

Are you our next Engineering Technician – Baggage? We are looking for someone who can help us redefine what's possible for our Engineering department.
The Engineering team deliver what matters. They protect, maintain, and repair our infrastructure, including the electricity that powers the airport, giant plant rooms that heat and cool the airport, and specialist equipment on the airfield.
What is the role?
To conduct planned and reactive maintenance and intervention tasks on all plant and equipment comprising the baggage systems at Gatwick Airport, ensuring high standards and maximum operational uptime. This is a shift-based position, including night and weekend work.
This role supports Baggage operations, with key assets such as complex conveyor systems, sortation machines, carousels, scanners, PLCs, and IT-based control systems.
What will you do?
1. Undertake planned preventative and corrective maintenance, considering asset performance and operational needs.
2. Ensure all engineering and operational records are updated to meet business, regulatory, and manufacturer standards.
3. Support performance improvement activities and programmes.
4. Take responsibility for safety, including PPE usage, mandatory training, and reporting incidents.
5. Utilize GAL IT systems (Ultimo, MyHub, P2W, Microsoft Office) as required.
6. Develop skills to maintain and operate existing and new assets, ensuring optimal performance.
7. Undertake role-specific training.
8. Work in passenger-facing and back-of-house areas across the airport campus.
9. Collaborate with others; this role has no direct reports.
Do you have what we're looking for?
* Advanced modern apprenticeship (Mechanical, Electrical, or Electronic) or equivalent.
* Core skill/bias in Electrical/Mechanical Engineering to at least ONC level (Level 3).
* Technical maintenance experience.
* Ability to interpret electrical and mechanical schematic drawings.
* Knowledge of relevant engineering discipline.
* Experience in system performance improvements.
* Knowledge of 17th Edition IEE wiring regulations.
* Valid driving license.
Interview Process
1. 30-minute virtual discussion with the hiring manager.
2. 1-hour technical assessment with Hiring Manager and Engineering Leader.
