Overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an Activity Worker working within female Acute Inpatient Services. The post is based at Oleaster Centre - Melissa Suite. The successful candidate will provide a range of social/recreational/leisure activities for individual and groups of service users who experience mental health difficulties. You will work very closely with the Occupational Therapy team and have the opportunity to contribute to assessments and interventions, through community activities and social interaction. You may be expected to facilitate and participate in planned and ad hoc group work and individual activities with service users, in addition to motivating and negotiating with service users who may be unwilling to participate in activity and to promote the benefits and outcomes that participation could generate, i.e. social interaction, well-being and independence.


Responsibilities

* Provide a range of social, recreational and leisure activities for individuals and groups of service users with mental health difficulties.
* Work closely with the Occupational Therapy team to contribute to assessments and interventions through community activities and social interaction.
* Facilitate and participate in planned and ad hoc group work and individual activities with service users.
* Motivate and negotiate with service users who may be unwilling to participate in activities and promote the benefits and outcomes of participation (social interaction, well-being, independence).
* Demonstrate an understanding of clinical risk and apply this in practice; undertake delegated tasks to contribute to the safe and smooth running of the service.
* Work full-time on a 9-5 basis, primarily Monday to Friday, with potential weekend working.
* Be enthusiastic, self-motivated, with a caring, professional and empathetic approach to people experiencing mental illness.
* Be able to work as part of a large multidisciplinary team and respond to working under pressure to meet deadlines.


Qualifications

* NVQ 3 or Equivalent (required).
* Psychology graduates are encouraged to apply.
