Job Summary

The School of Health is a vibrant academic community and the main provider of both undergraduate and postgraduate nursing, midwifery and AHP's in the North of Scotland. As a Lecturer in Nursing, you will join a motivated team of academics, providing support for teaching and learning across the School. With knowledge, experience, and skills as well as a degree in a relevant subject, you will be expected to contribute to the Schools undergraduate and postgraduate nursing portfolio. Opportunities to contribute to teaching and assessment on related courses both within the School of Health and the wider University reflect the inter-professional approach which is required of the successful candidate.

You will be a committed and motivated professional, you should have excellent communication and teaching skills and be able to motivate and inspire students. Experience in Adult and/or Occupational Health and/or Advanced Practice Nursing is desirable.

All our education is evidence based and we encourage curiosity and innovation in our staff to enhance our academic portfolio. You will be supported to identify and actively engage in scholarship and research activities. Development of a personal research profile and contribution to applied health research or educational research is an expectation of all academic staff. Grade 7 Salary Scale: £39,906 - 46,049
Grade 8 Salary Scale: £47,389 56,535
Salary on appointment will be dependent upon experience.

Candidates with limited or no prior experience as an academic will be placed on the first point of the Grade 7 scale. Consideration will be given to offering an Academic Attraction Payment (adjusted annually) for those candidates who have specific industry knowledge, skills or, expertise which are required for the position.

JOB DESCRIPTION

RESPONSIBLE TO: Principal Lecturer

RESPONSIBLE FOR: No line management responsibility

PURPOSE OF THE POST: Contribute to the Schools undergraduate and postgraduate portfolio with the requirement to contribute to education across the School. To actively engage in research, commercialisation and research activities.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES:

Participates in the development and preparation of teaching.

Provides tutorial and personal guidance for students.

Supervises undergraduate and postgraduate students

Develops and maintain expertise in subject.

Participates in subject, course and module development.

Undertakes appropriate administrative responsibilities.

Participates in curriculum development and in particular contributes to the introduction of new methods of teaching, learning and assessment.

Establishes and maintains relevant professional and industrial links, as necessary, for the effective operation of the School's course (e.g engagement in work of external bodies, educational and professional).

Promotes and markets the School and its courses to local, national and international audiences.

Maintains working relationships with other Schools/Departments/Units within the University, as necessary, for the smooth operation and continued development of the School and its courses.

Represents the School on relevant University committees and the School and University on external committees.

Other activities as deemed appropriate by the Associate Dean or the Dean of School.
