Managing Director – SWRnewstar (Biffa I&C)

SWRnewstar, part of the Biffa Group, is seeking an outstanding Managing Director to lead the business through its next chapter of accelerated growth, digital advancement and operational excellence.
This is a rare opportunity to shape the future of a £33m revenue business operating at the forefront of waste brokerage and digital solutions. With full P&L accountability and leadership of colleagues, you will define strategy, inspire performance, and embed a high-engagement, high-accountability culture aligned to the wider Biffa vision.
You will combine commercial sharpness with operational rigour and digital fluency — positioning SWRnewstar as a market-leading, customer-centric and technology-enabled business.
The Role
As Managing Director, you will:
1. Define and deliver a clear, ambitious strategy aligned to group objectives
2. Own full P&L responsibility, driving profitable growth and sustainable margin improvement
3. Lead commercial, operational and digital transformation initiatives
4. Accelerate platform innovation and data-driven performance management
5. Champion a “One Biffa” mindset, strengthening collaboration across the Group
6. Ensure robust governance, regulatory compliance and risk management
7. Build, coach and empower a high-performing senior leadership team
8. Foster a safety-first, customer-focused and performance-driven culture
9. Act as a senior ambassador with customers, suppliers and key stakeholders
About You
You are an accomplished senior leader with a track record of delivering growth, transformation and cultural impact within complex B2B environments.
You will bring:
10. Proven success leading senior leadership teams with full business accountability
11. Experience running a digitally enabled or platform-based business
12. Strong commercial instinct with deep financial and strategic capability
13. Background across sales, marketing, account management and/or operations
14. The ability to translate strategy into disciplined execution
15. Exceptional stakeholder engagement and influencing skills
16. A collaborative, innovative and resilient leadership style
Desirable
17. Master’s degree or equivalent
18. Project management qualification
19. Experience within broker solutions or outsourced service models
20. Knowledge of waste and recycling legislation
