Consultant Paediatrician with interest in Neonatal Medicine based at the Worcestershire Royal Hospital. The post holder will have the majority of duties at WRH, with outpatient clinics across Worcestershire (Redditch, Evesham, Malvern, Kidderminster). The post is part of a countywide service with all inpatient paediatric and neonatal services at WRH.
Main duties of the job
Countywide rota: 1 in 8 covering neonatal unit and 1 in 16 weeks covering paediatric assessment pathway (PAP). General paediatric clinics primarily at WRH, Alexandra Hospital (Redditch), and Kidderminster Treatment Centre, with additional clinics at Malvern and Evesham Community Hospitals.
Job responsibilities
* Provide clinical service in the relevant specialty to patients of the Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust and to General Practitioners.
* Attend multi‑disciplinary meetings, work within multi‑disciplinary teams to provide high‑quality clinical care. Work anticipated on three sites and closer to patients’ homes.
* Support A&E department and acute medicine to ensure timely appropriate care and patient flow through the hospital.
* Provide consultation and advisory service to clinical colleagues within the Trust and Primary Care.

* Ability to advise on efficient and smooth running of specialist service.
* Ability to organise and manage outpatient priorities.
* Ability to manage and lead the specialty firm and multi‑disciplinary team.
* Experience of audit management and conducting clinical audit.

* Ability to manage and lead specialist units and working parties as appropriate.
* Ability to use evidence‑based clinical audit to support decision‑making.
Teaching Experience – Essential
* Ability to teach clinical skills to medical, nursing staff and other disciplines.
* Experience of teaching clinical skills to undergraduates and postgraduates.

* Ability to supervise postgraduate research.

* Ability to work in a team.

* Full GMC Registration with a licence to practise.
* Entry on Specialist Register in Paediatrics (or expected within 6 months of interview date) via CCT or Portfolio Pathway, or European Community Rights.
* Success in Intercollegiate Specialty Examination or overseas equivalent.
Qualifications – Desirable
* Higher degree.
Experience – Essential
* Clinical training and experience equivalent to that required for gaining UK CCT in Paediatrics.
* Ability to offer expert clinical opinion on a range of problems both emergency and elective within specialty.
* Ability to take full and independent responsibility for clinical care of patients.
* Expertise in sub‑specialty.
