Are you an experienced practice accountant looking for a varied role with client contact, responsibility, and the opportunity to grow with a successful local firm?
We are a modern, growing accountancy practice based in Whitley Bay, working with a varied client base of sole traders, landlords, partnerships and small limited companies.
We are looking for a Semi Senior Accountant to join our small, friendly team. This role would suit someone with solid UK accountancy practice experience who is confident preparing accounts, dealing with clients, and managing deadlines across an allocated group of clients.
You will take day-to-day responsibility for keeping client work moving, requesting records, preparing accounts and related work, and dealing with routine client queries. You will be supported by the practice owner, who will remain involved in technical queries, final reviews, tax sign-off and year-end meetings.
As the practice continues to grow, there is a genuine opportunity for the right person to develop with the business, take on more responsibility and build a long-term role within the firm.
The Role
This is a hands-on practice role with plenty of variety. You will work across a group of clients, helping to manage deadlines, prepare client work and maintain strong client relationships.
The practice uses modern cloud-based software, so this role would suit someone comfortable working with systems such as Xero, FreeAgent, QuickBooks and similar platforms.
Key Responsibilities
Preparing year-end accounts for sole traders, partnerships and small limited companies
Preparing bookkeeping work, VAT support work and management information where required
Supporting the preparation of personal tax and corporation tax information
Taking day-to-day responsibility for deadlines across an allocated group of clients
Liaising directly with clients to request records, answer routine queries and keep jobs moving
Using cloud accounting software including Xero, FreeAgent, QuickBooks and similar platforms
Identifying issues and escalating technical or complex matters to the practice owner
Supporting the practice owner with client review points and year-end work
Maintaining accurate, well-organised working papers and records
About You
You will ideally have:
Experience working within a UK accountancy practice
Strong experience preparing accounts for sole traders and small limited companies
Good bookkeeping and VAT knowledge
Confidence communicating directly with clients
The ability to manage your own workload and deadlines
Experience using cloud accounting software
A reliable, detail-focused and proactive approach
An interest in growing with the practice and developing your role over time
AAT studying or AAT qualified and ACCA/ACA part-qualified candidates will all be considered. The most important thing is that you have strong practice experience and can work confidently with small business clients.
