Teaching Assistant – Alternative Provision (Cheddar, Somerset) Location: Somerset Hours: 8:15am – 3:30pm, Monday to Friday Pay: £89 per day Contract Type: Full-time, with the potential for permanent placement We are delighted to be supporting a unique alternative provision based on a farm near Cheddar, Somerset, in their recruitment of a Teaching Assistant to work on a 1:1 basis with pupils with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs and physical disabilities. About the Provision: Set in a rural environment, this small and nurturing setting combines a working smallholding, farm animals, and an informal learning centre to offer a therapeutic and highly individualised approach to education. The provision supports young people who have found mainstream schooling difficult and focuses on building trust, routine, and life skills in a calm, natural environment. About the Role: This is an exciting opportunity for someone passionate about supporting pupils with complex needs in a non-traditional educational environment. The role includes: • Providing 1:1 support to pupils with SEMH and/or physical disabilities. • Encouraging emotional regulation and promoting social skills through therapeutic and outdoor learning. • Supporting learning in practical and farm-based activities, as well as informal classroom sessions. • Using positive behaviour strategies and trauma-informed practice to help young people thrive. • Assisting in the care of animals and maintaining safe spaces around the site. • Contributing to a calm, consistent and nurturing learning atmosphere. • Liaising with staff, families, and outside professionals to ensure holistic support. The Ideal Candidate: We are looking for someone who is: • Patient, empathetic, and resilient, with a calm and nurturing approach. • Experienced in working with young people with SEMH needs and/or physical disabilities (desirable but not essential). • Comfortable working outdoors in all seasons and confident engaging with farm animals. • Adaptable, hands-on, and able to think creatively to meet individual needs. • Willing to commit fully to the values and therapeutic ethos of the provision. No formal qualifications are required, but experience in education, care, or similar roles is beneficial.
