Overview
Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) Regulatory Officer - Field Based - 31634. Based in the Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) team within Batteries, WEEE and Shipments, part of Environmental Markets and Regulation. National travel and overnight stays will be required. The role involves regulating a range of businesses within the Producer Responsibility regime to ensure producers, reprocessors and exporters of waste comply with their responsibilities.
We are looking for professional, enthusiastic people to join our team of Regulatory Officers who can work as part of a dispersed team yet be self-motivated and disciplined. The Environment Agency uses a hybrid working approach, including office and home working. This role may be based at multiple locations in England depending on placement and business needs.
Responsibilities
* Undertake audits (on-site and virtual).
* Take appropriate enforcement action when necessary.
* Disrupt non-compliance and contribute to the development and improvement of processes and procedures.
* Collate and analyse complex data to support evidence-based regulatory decisions.
* Handle confidential and sensitive information in line with data protection guidelines.
* Work as part of a dispersed team while maintaining self-motivation and discipline.
Experience and Skills Required
* Effective, organised, and able to prioritise tasks.
* Rational/composed and IT/computer literate.
* Comfortable with numbers and large data sets.
* Passionate about the environment and willing to learn about environmental regulation and enforcement.
* Ability to handle confrontational situations.
* Adapt communication style to suit others and work effectively in a team.
* Accurate record-keeping and data entry.
Role specifics
* Full UK clean driving licence is essential.
* Experience in waste industry or regulatory work is not required; full training is provided.
Team and Culture
The team consists of Regulatory Officers, Senior Technical Officers, and Digital Specialists. The Environment Agency aims to improve recycling quality, monitor industry compliance, and enforce the Regulators code to protect and improve the environment.
