Civil Engineer – Roads & Drainage Design
Elb Recruit is partnering with a respected UK engineering consultancy to find an experienced Civil Engineer with a strong background in roads and drainage design. Based in the consultancy’s vibrant Wigan office, this is a fantastic opportunity to take on a key technical role delivering high-quality infrastructure and development projects across the region.

The Role
We’re looking for a motivated engineer with around five or more years’ experience in civil design, ideally gained in a consultancy environment. You’ll take ownership of design packages, coordinate with multidisciplinary teams, and deliver practical, buildable solutions from early feasibility through to detailed design and delivery.
You’ll also play an important part in mentoring junior engineers and supporting team development.
Key Responsibilities
* Lead and produce designs for highways, drainage, utilities and SUDS elements.
* Prepare and review calculations, drawings and technical reports.
* Use design tools such as AutoCAD, Civil 3D or PDS, and Flow or MicroDrainage.
* Interpret topographical surveys and site investigation data.
* Liaise with clients, contractors and local authorities to ensure smooth project delivery.
* Contribute to fee proposals, project planning and budgeting.
* Ensure compliance with relevant UK legislation including the Highways Act, Water Industry Act, and associated codes and standards.
About You
* Degree-qualified in Civil Engineering (or equivalent).
* Proven experience in roads and drainage design within the UK.
* Strong technical understanding and attention to detail.
* Confident communicator able to work effectively across disciplines and represent the company externally.
* Chartered or working towards Chartership (ICE) preferred.
