JOB TITLE: Teacher - Post-Primary
REPORTS TO: Principal
PROFESSIONAL DUTIES OF A TEACHER
* Exercise of general professional duties as circumstances may require, under the reasonable direction of the principal or board.
* Exercise of particular duties as may be reasonably assigned by the principal.
* Planning and preparing courses and lessons; teaching pupils according to their educational needs, including setting and marking work in school and elsewhere.
* Assessing, recording and reporting on the development, progress and attainment of pupils.
* Promoting the general progress and well-being of pupils; providing advice and guidance on educational and social matters and future careers.
* Making records and reports on the personal and social needs of pupils; communicating with parents and relevant external parties; participating in meetings.
* Providing or contributing to oral and written assessments, reports and references relating to pupils.
* Participating in staff development and performance review; reviewing teaching methods and programmes; further training and professional development.
* Advising and cooperating with the Principal and other teachers on curriculum development, materials, teaching programmes and assessment; participating in pastoral arrangements.
* Maintaining good order and discipline, safeguarding health and safety, and participating in school governance and administration tasks as required.
* Participating in arrangements for public examinations and pupil presentation; assisting with planning and administration as needed.
* Contributing to selection and professional development of other teachers, coordinating or managing the work of teachers, and taking part in curricular, organizational and pastoral activities.
* Managing administrative tasks related to duties, including attendance, supervision, and provision of support where applicable.
* Being available for work on 195 days per year, and fulfilling duties at times/places as reasonably required by the Principal or employing authority, subject to contractual limits.

SECTION 1 - ESSENTIAL CRITERIA
The following essential criteria will be measured at the shortlisting stage and may be explored during the interview/selection stage:
* Qualifications/ Professional Membership – Hold a teaching qualification recognized to teach in grant‑aided schools in Northern Ireland; hold a degree or equivalent Level 6 qualification prepared to teach Key Stage 3 French and Spanish as main subjects.
* Experience – Minimum of 3 years' paid demonstrable experience of teaching French and/or Spanish at Key Stage 3 with positive learning outcomes; demonstrable experience of using a range of teaching strategies; using digital media/technology to enhance teaching and learning; promoting and developing the subject through enrichment activities.
* Other – Be registered with the General Teaching Council for Northern Ireland (GTCNI) before taking up post; Pre-employment checks.
SECTION 2 - ESSENTIAL CRITERIA
Additional essential criteria to be measured during the interview/selection stage includes:
* Knowledge – Knowledge of Northern Ireland Curriculum; safeguarding and child protection policy/practice; SEND Code of Practice; range of teaching strategies; IT systems and digital tools; current assessment methods.
* Skills / Abilities – Effective teaching and classroom management; ability to provide a supportive, inclusive learning environment; collaboration with pupils, colleagues, parents and community; teamwork and motivation of self and others.
* Values Orientation / School Ethos – Evidence of alignment with the school's values/ethos (information on values is on the school's website).
SECTION 3 - DESIRABLE CRITERIA
Desirable criteria may be applied to determine a manageable pool of candidates and will be applied in the order listed. Include clear demonstration on the application form of meeting desirable criteria.
* Qualifications And Experience – Degree or equivalent Level 6 in French or Spanish or related subject (2.1 or higher); curriculum development in Modern Languages; experience leading and managing staff; experience teaching an additional subject at Key Stage 3.

The Safeguarding Vulnerable Groups (Northern Ireland) Order 2007 defines regulated activity. If recommended for appointment to a post involving regulated activity, an Enhanced Disclosure of Criminal Background will be undertaken.
