PROPOSED SALARY RANGE: £28,850 - £41,400 depending on relevant skills, knowledge and experience. The expected salary range for this role reflects internal benchmarking and external market insights.

PURPOSE OF THE ROLE
The Journalist on the Picture Stills Desk plays a key role in ensuring we use high-quality photography across digital output. Your work will ensure that our best journalism stands out and is amplified by the best possible imagery, for a growing global audience.
WHY JOIN THE TEAM
Join a busy, newsroom to make sure strong, impactful imaging is at the heart of our digital news and features coverage. As a journalist on the picture team, you will work closely and at pace with editors across the digital newsroom to source and select the best images for pieces that make the news front page.
YOUR KEY RESPONSIBILITES AND IMPACT
• Source and select the best photography for use across this digital output, from a wide range of internal and agency sources
• Use image handling software to process images to a high standard
• Collaborate efficiently with editors working on breaking news, live pages and deeper reads, and the news homepage
• Assist the Senior Picture Editor in supporting photographic best practice and dealing with copyright
• The role will require some flexibility in terms of hours, with a variable shift pattern, including early shifts scheduled to make sure the best pictures are on the website at peak audience times
YOUR SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE - KEY CRITERIA
• Experience of working in a high-pressure news environment, and ability to prioritise effectively at speed
• Sharp editorial judgement when selecting stills to enhance storytelling and story promotion
• Professional knowledge of digital photography capture, distribution, storage, including photo agency cataloguing practice, and sourcing photos from social media and elsewhere
• Strong understanding of picture rights pertaining to digital media
• Professional experience of Photoshop
