Position Overview
A rare opportunity is currently on offer in the Gloucestershire School Nursing Service. The role is a School and Community Health Practitioner – part time (4 × 6 hour days) based in Tewkesbury, delivering support to schools and the community. This relatively new post involves screening as per national and local guidance, the National Child Measurement Programme and providing advice and support for children and families in one‑to‑one or facilitated groups.
The School and Community Health Practitioner will also be the first line of support for the School and Community Health Facilitators and will be an expert in, and deliver training in, the Togetherness Parenting programme.
Responsibilities
* Work within the School Nursing Team to deliver delegated components of the 0‑19 Healthy Child Programme (DH 2009).
* Monitor quality, compliance and report risks by exception to the Senior School Nurse or Clinical Team Leader.
* Deliver interventions for children, families and young people using clinical judgement to adapt and change care based on responses and outcomes observed.
* Provide high‑quality, compassionate, evidence‑based public health promotion advice following an initial assessment by a registered practitioner, using child‑centred approaches that promote health and independence.
* Demonstrate effective approaches to monitoring signs and symptoms of physical, mental, cognitive, behavioural and emotional distress, and liaise with the School Nurse in an appropriate and timely manner to review or reassess needs as required.
