Are you passionate about supporting tenants and landlords in Bristol’s private rented sector?

Join our Housing Regulation Team and play a vital role in ensuring fair, safe, and lawful housing across the city. To help renters, you will use the laws that protect tenants, the Council’s licensed property conditions and we anticipate the imminent Renters Rights Bill.

This is an opportunity to start at the beginning of a generational change that will transform the landscape of private renting.

What will I be doing?

As a Caseworker, you’ll be part of a dedicated team who work to resolve tenancy issues and enforce the law in this area. Your work will include:

1. Investigation and resolution of tenancy disputes to help save tenancies
2. Provide advice to both landlords and tenants
3. Compile cases for prosecution and financial penalty
4. Maintaining accurate and detailed case records

What do I need to have?

5. A degree level qualification and some significant experience working in housing, a meaningful proportion of which should be in the private housing sector; or
6. A relevant HND/BTEC or equivalent in (Housing, Environmental Health, Surveying, etc.) and some significant experience working in housing, a meaningful proportion of which should be in the private housing sector; or
7. Substantial experience working in housing, a meaningful proportion of which should be in the private housing sector. And:
8. Experience of providing direct frontline services to the public.
9. A basic knowledge of the legislation and regulations which apply to the private housing sector.

You will need to demonstrate how you meet the essential requirements in your application.

If you are appointed, a competence-based grading system means that there could be opportunities in the future for you to develop your experience and progress to a Level 2 Private Housing Caseworker (up to £40 476) or Senior Environmental Health Housing Officer role (up to £44 711), through the completion of assessed competencies. Further details will be provided at interview.

There may also be opportunities to work in other areas of the Private Housing Service, such as; Rented Property Standards or Licensing. Please make contact if you are interested in working in these areas.

Currently this post can be delivered by homeworking the majority of the time, although post holders will be expected to travel to Bristol regularly as the service requires.
