Job Summary
NHS Professionals is recruiting a Cancer Care Support Worker for the University Hospital Southampton (UHS). This bank position runs for up to 6 months, offering full‑time hours Monday‑Friday 9 am‑5 pm. The role focuses on supporting patients and carers with information, signposting, and holistic support during their cancer journey.
Main Duties
* Enable patients to navigate supportive services through referrals and signposting that meet individual needs.
* Signpost patients to Macmillan and other resource organisations.
* Provide telephone and face‑to‑face support, guidance and signpost to other sources of support.
* Ensure patients are offered at least one Holistic Needs Assessment (HNA) and Care Plan and be available even if an HNA is declined.
* Work with Macmillan Centre volunteers to provide high‑quality information and support across UHS.
* Deliver outreach services within the wider UHS and support education and training for staff and volunteers.
* Carry out administrative duties required for the role.
* Signpost to the clinical team for complex decisions and contribute to service audits, patient and family feedback, MQiSS and MQEM programmes.

Person Specification – Experience
* Experience supporting cancer care patients at Band 4 level in an NHS or private UK hospital setting within the last 2 years.
* Understanding of PIFU (patient‑initiated follow‑up).
* Conscientious, patient‑focused, and able to signpost patients to relevant support.
* Experience with holistic needs assessments.
