Job overview
As a research pharmacy assistant you will support the Pharmacy Clinical Trials Unit in the accurate receipt, storage, dispensing and accountability of medicinal products (licensed or investigational) for clinical trial use across the Trust. You will work closely with lead clinical trial dispensary technicians, pharmacists and other pharmacy staff to provide a high‑quality dispensary service and help deliver world‑class research in several specialities including cancer, neurology, stroke, rheumatology and early phase medicine.
Main duties of the job
* Assist the Pharmacy Clinical Trials Unit/Team in receiving, storing, dispensing and accounting for investigational medicinal products (IMPs) for up to 5 active sites within UCLH.
* Support the Principal Pharmacist (R&D) in meeting objectives for maintaining and developing the pharmacy clinical trial service across the Trust.
* Provide support to the Pharmacy Team in delivering an efficient and high‑quality service to UCL Hospitals internal and external customers.
* Accountable on a day‑to‑day basis to the Lead Research Technicians.
Requirements
Knowledge and Qualifications
* Working towards or holding an NVQ Level 2 in pharmacy services, or equivalent.
* GCSE English or Maths (or equivalent).
* Good standard of written and spoken English.
* Previous training on COSSH.
* Previous customer care training.
* Good mental arithmetic.
Experience
* Previous manual handling experience and training.
* Previous experience of working with flammable and cytotoxic substances.
* Previous experience in a pharmacy, distribution or clinical trials related role for at least 1 year.
* Previous experience with a pharmacy dispensing computer system.

* Good written, verbal and listening communication skills.

Physical and IT Requirements
* Ability to repeatedly lift heavy boxes (up to 16‑25 kg) safely following health and safety guidelines.
* Proficiency with MS Office, various IT health programmes, and a computer with good keyboard skills.
* Familiarity with, and adherence to, Trust policies on infection prevention and control.
