ERT is seeking an Application Systems Developer / IT Support Specialist to support NOAA's Air Research Laboratory Special Operations and Research Division. This division plays a crucial role in contributing to the safety and efficient operation of the Idaho National Laboratories by producing valuable weather data. These data are gathered from weather stations across the eastern Idaho desert, and used for forecasting, weather modeling, scientific research, and emergency operations. This position will play a pivotal role in developing applications to improve the way weather data are acquired, stored, and disseminated. Responsibilities include, but not limited to the following areas:
Application Development, Maintenance and Improvement
1. Perform application development to support various scientific tasks that may involve data acquisition, processing, storage and display.
2. Perform database development, interaction, maintenance, and updates.
3. Maintain/improve various in-house developed applications, to include troubleshooting.
IT Support
4. Set up, maintain, and secure Windows and Linux/Unix workstations, servers, and scientific computing systems, including Windows Active Directory and CAC authentication.
5. Conduct weekly vulnerability scans (e.g., Nessus, BigFix), remediate critical/high-risk findings, maintain cross-platform backup systems, and assist with system repair or recovery after compromise.
6. Provide IT help desk support and assist the ARL IT Manager with troubleshooting, system recovery, and ongoing operational needs.
7. Support IT procurement, maintain accurate inventories of hardware and software licenses, and assist administrative staff with property audits
Required Skills
8. 10 years of relevant experience
9. Knowledge/experience in scripting languages (Python, SQL, JavaScript, ActionScript, Bash, etc.) and software/application development languages
10. Hands-on programming experience with Unix/Linux and Windows operating systems
11. Some experience in providing system administration and software support
12. Must be able to pass a background investigation to obtain a security badge to enter the applicable government facility
Desired Skills
13. Knowledge/experience in Fortran, C, Basic, web development, and SQL database administration
14. Self-motivated with the ability to work in a team and individual environment
15. Problem-solving and solution driven
Education
BS in computer science, information system, or related discipline
Location
This position is on-site at NOAA's Air Research Laboratory in Idaho Falls, Idaho.
Compensation
The salary range for this role is $62,000 - 275,000/year. This range is a good faith estimate based on similar roles across the organization. ERT considers several factors when extending an offer of employment, including the location, scope, and associated responsibilities of the specific position, as well as a candidate’s work experience, education/training, and key skills.
