Applicants are required for the post of Senior Biomedical Scientist in the Haematology laboratory at Hull as part of the Scarborough, Hull and York Pathology Service (SHYPS).
The successful applicant will be a qualified BMS, with MSc, or equivalent, or PgDip awaiting completion to MSc, and will be responsible for the day-to-day running of the Haemoglobinopathies and HbA1c section of the Blood Sciences Laboratory. Applicants must be state registered with the HCPC and have extensive post registration experience in a Haematology Laboratory, with evidence of CPD in Haemoglobinopathies and/or HbA1c.
The section covers haemoglobinopathy screening, glycated haemoglobin testing and other specialist testing for SHYPS, and the provision of the NHS Sickle cell & Thalassaemia screening programme for the NHS Humber Health Trust maintaining strong links with the Trust antenatal screening Team.
The Haematology laboratory has a wide test repertoire including routine haematology, blood transfusion, coagulation, special haemostasis, HbA1c and haemoglobinopathy testing. The laboratory is one of the busiest haematology laboratories in the region processing in excess of 900,000 requests pa across two hospital sites. The department is equipped with TOSOH G11 analysers, Sysmex HST system, CN series coagulation analysers and Ortho Vision blood transfusion analysers.
All Biomedical Scientists are expected to participate fully in the local shift pattern once assessed as competent.
