We're BDO, an accountancy and business advisory firm providing the advice and solutions entrepreneurial organisations need to navigate today's changing world.
We work with Britain's economic engine—ambitious, entrepreneurially spirited, high-growth businesses—and directly advise their owners and management teams.
We'll broaden your horizons
Learning and Development (L&D) is a key enabler of our strategy as an Audit Stream and is critical to our success. It supports our ability to attract, develop, and retain talented people who take pride in their work and deliver for our business. Effective L&D underpins quality and productivity by helping our people develop the necessary knowledge and skills to perform their roles and reach their potential.
We have an exciting opportunity for an Experienced Manager / Senior Manager or equivalent to join our Learning Development team. The role suits a talented, high-performing, and ambitious individual eager to support current curriculum delivery and shape future L&D strategy during a growth phase. This role reports to the Development and Monitoring Lead (DAM).
The Learning Development team (LD) comprises learning designers responsible for designing, curating, or creating content for our Audit programme. The goal is to develop impactful, innovative solutions that meet learner needs and deliver business outcomes. The team includes technical and non-technical specialists responsible for main authoring activities.
Lead authors collaborate with the Business Partnering team (BP) and Audit Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) to understand business objectives, translate them into learning objectives, and design effective interventions. This involves using learning design methodologies, innovation, and insights to author complex content. They also support the Learning Implementation team (LI) with project management and facilitation where appropriate.
The successful candidate will lead a portfolio of programmes and have wider team responsibilities, including reviewing content, coaching junior members, driving team workstreams, and supporting initiatives like the Learning Library and Learning Culture programmes.
This role can be based anywhere in the UK, with travel to our London office and other locations as needed. Some courses may require residential stays.
Key responsibilities include:
* Developing impactful, innovative content that meets learner needs and business outcomes.
* Reviewing content created by team members to ensure quality, learning efficacy, and consistency.
* Building and maintaining relationships with content SMEs.
* Supporting programme delivery through project management and facilitation.
* Designing, curating, or creating technical and non-technical content under the DAM's direction.
* Supporting the broader L&D team with development, delivery, evaluation, coaching, and strategic initiatives.
* Training facilitators and hosts to deliver learning content effectively.
* Leveraging audit experience and understanding of accounting and auditing in content development.
* Coaching and upskilling junior team members and building L&D expertise.
* Collaborating with BP and LI teams to identify learning needs and develop appropriate content.
* Working with the Innovation and Technology team to incorporate innovative learning design and technology.
Required skills and experience:
* Experienced Manager / Senior Manager (or equivalent) with programme development background, including non-technical and audit-technical content, preferably with regulatory reporting experience.
* Practical audit experience and a solid understanding of financial reporting, ethics, and professional conduct.
* Formal L&D qualifications are advantageous but not essential if experience in authoring and reviewing content is proven.
* Knowledge of design thinking, innovation, tools, technology, and data analytics.
* Strong relationship-building skills to work with stakeholders, influence, problem-solve, and drive activities.
* Excellent teamworking, coaching, and independent working abilities.
* Experience with behavioural change or cultural programmes and understanding of strategic alignment is beneficial.
* Interest in developing oneself and others through high-quality learning interventions.
* Ability to translate learning needs into objectives and coordinate responses.
* Excellent analytical, interpersonal, and communication skills, both written and verbal.
