Financial Controller | Construction Sector | £65,000 - £80,000 | Manchester
Robert Half is partnering with a dynamic and growing construction group to recruit a Financial Controller. This is a senior role reporting into the board of directors and offers the opportunity to shape and lead the finance function within a forward-thinking business.
The Financial Controller will oversee a small, established finance team and take ownership of all aspects of day-to-day finance including management accounts, payroll, invoicing and credit control. In addition, the role will provide financial insight at board level, driving improvements in reporting, systems and controls to support the business's growth strategy.
The Role
1. Lead and develop the finance function, overseeing a small but dedicated team.
2. Take ownership of all financial operations including management accounts, payroll, invoicing, and credit control.
3. Act as the primary finance voice at board level, providing robust financial insight and strategic support.
4. Work closely with divisional leaders to ensure strong financial controls, commercial decision-making, and improved reporting.
5. Drive process improvements and implement scalable systems to support growth.
6. Provide a "safe pair of hands" while also contributing to long-term planning and future profit-sharing initiatives.
About You
7. Strong background in construction, contracting, or related sectors (highly desirable).
8. ACA/ACCA/CIMA qualified or part-qualified
9. Proven ability to handle the demands of a growing, fast-paced SME.
10. Excellent communication skills with the authority and confidence to operate at board level.
11. Hands-on, pragmatic approach, able to balance strategic thinking with day-to-day delivery.
12. Ambition to progress, this role offers a clear pathway to Finance Director level.
