Job Summary
The Friends of King's College Hospital (The Friends) are looking for an experienced Shop Manager to join the team for a fixed term of 12 months. The role entails responsibility for the day‑to‑day running of the Friends’ shop and trolley shop, while also supporting the development and growth activities of the Friends. The successful candidate will work alongside the Charity Managers and a growing team of volunteers.
Typical shift patterns are 12:00pm‑6:00pm, four days a week, with occasional changes including weekend work when volunteers are unavailable. The shop is open 9:00am‑5:30pm Monday‑Friday and 10:00am‑4:00pm on weekends.
Main Duties of the Job
Oversee day‑to‑day operation of the Friends shop(s) and trolley shop(s), creating a welcoming atmosphere and ensuring high‑quality customer service for patients, carers and staff.
Manage volunteers, delivering efficient and effective operation of the trading outlets, and maintain compliance with relevant policies, shop standards and operating procedures.
Maintain attractive visual merchandising, clean and tidy shop environment, accurate shop administration, and provide ideas for improving operating models in partnership with the Charity Manager.
Support the development and growth activities of the Friends, promoting membership, gathering customer feedback, and building partnerships with individuals, donors, communities, organisations and businesses.

Job Responsibilities
* Create a welcoming professional atmosphere and deliver high standards of customer service for patients, carers and staff.
* Ensure efficient and effective day‑to‑day operation of the trading outlets.
* Set and manage volunteer work, ensuring all relevant policies, standards and operating procedures are adhered to and communicated.
* Present the shop(s) to the highest standards with attractive visual merchandising and window displays.
* Collaborate with Medirest to maintain a clean and tidy shop environment.
* Complete all shop administration to the highest standard, accurately and on time, adhering to relevant policies and procedures.
* Share ideas and suggestions to improve operating models, including use of the Kings Improvement Method.
* Contribute to implementation of the Friends membership model by actively promoting the offer to customers.
* Pursue customer feedback to inform the development of operating models, stock provisions, trading outlets and shop(s) space, including attending the King's Bazaar when required.
* Support development of new partnerships by signposting interested parties to the Charity Managers.
Person Specification
Essential
* GCSE in English and Maths or equivalent professional experience demonstrating academic skills.
* Proven track record of delivering high‑quality results on time in a lead role over a team of comparable size and complexity.
* Financial and budgetary management experience.
* Experience managing stock control for a small commercial retail outlet.
* Experience operating a cloud‑based POS system such as SumUp.
* Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.
* Excellent organisational and workload management skills.
* Demonstrable commitment to collaborative teamwork.
