THE JOB
We are recruiting for a Company Accountant / Financial Controller to join the finance team. The position has become available following the departure of a long-standing team member, and you will be joining a close-knit structure consisting of the Finance Director, yourself in the Financial Controller role, and an Accounts Assistant.
This is a varied role where you will take ownership of day-to-day financial operations, statutory compliance, and financial reporting, whilst also supporting the Finance Director in strategic planning and decision-making.
Key Responsibilities
* Preparation and submission of VAT returns and CIS returns.
* Month-end and year-end accounts preparation and reporting.
* Liaising with external accountants and auditors.
* Producing management accounts, reports, and financial analysis.
* Maintaining strong financial controls and ensuring statutory compliance.
* Supporting budgeting and forecasting activities.
* Supervising and guiding the Accounts Assistant.
* Identifying opportunities to streamline processes and improve efficiencies.
WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR
* Qualified or part-qualified ACA / ACCA / CIMA, or qualified by experience.
* Previous experience in a Company Accountant, Financial Controller, or similar role. Ideally within a construction company but not essential
* Experience in VAT returns
* Proficient with accounting software and Excel.
* Excellent communication skills with the ability to liaise across all levels of the business.
* Detail-oriented, proactive, and able to manage competing priorities.
