Home Fire Safety Visit (HFSV) Technician

An opportunity has become available for the position of HFSV Technician within the Northern Service Delivery Group. This is an exciting opportunity to help make Staffordshire a safer place to be.

Salary: Grade 5 (£28,598 - £31,022)

Hours: 37 hours per week - Flexible working scheme is in operation

Duration: Temporary until 31/3/26

Location: Northern Service Delivery Group (NSDG), Sandyford Fire Station

About the role:

To contribute to the implementation of the SFRS Prevention, Protection, Road Safety and Business Safety Strategy, and to support the delivery of the corporate objectives within the SFRS Corporate Safety Plan by delivering Home Fire Safety Visits (HFSV’s). Provide general home fire safety advice to members of the public in their homes and fit smoke alarms and supplementary equipment where required.

Duties Include: (see full job description attached)

1. Carry out Home Fire Safety Visits and support joint visits as required and in accordance with SFRS policies and procedures.
2. Give advice and guidance to support better health & safety to home owners and tenants during the HFSV visit - highlight and discuss potential fire, health, and generic hazards in their homes and offer advice on preventative action.
3. Provide health, safety, and wellbeing information and signpost to Community Safety Officer’s if required. (Safe guarding / Extended HFSV’s)
4. Fit appropriate equipment including Assisted Technology and detection alarms, based on need and thereby providing a direct intervention to support the occupier.
5. Identify vulnerability factors of occupier’s e.g. sensory impairment, and signpost accordingly.
6. Carry out administrative functions in accordance with SFRS policies and procedures.
7. Maintain appropriate levels of required stock.
8. Drive an SFRS vehicle to appointments and undertake general vehicle maintenance.
9. Maintain tools and equipment to a satisfactory standard.
10. Maintain knowledge and an awareness of developments within the prevention arena as required by the role.
11. Any other duties as determined by CPP and commensurate with the grade.

Person Specification

Essential:

Knowledge and Experience:

12. Experience of working alone efficiently and using initiative in order to meet deadlines.

Skills, ability and personal qualities:

13. Good communication and interpersonal skills.
14. Good IT skills including Microsoft Word, Excel & Outlook.
15. Ability to process new information quickly.
16. Attention to detail in all aspects of the role.
17. Good problem solving skills
18. Prepared to undertake training for the role, and to develop self as required.
19. Full driving license

Person Specification:

You should have good communication, organisation, and IT skills. The ideal candidate should have experience of delivering and presenting to varied audiences, and have the ability to use intelligence and data to drive initiatives.

A full Driving Licence is essential and candidates should have suitable business use insurance.

Previous experience of Community Safety initiatives, working with key partners, and with vulnerable people, would be advantageous.
