Job overview
The post holder will be required to work as part of a team providing a booking service to the cardiology department. This requires close liaison with consultants, patients, medical and nursing staff, physiologists and managers.
This is a multi-skilled and busy role with frequent requirements for concentration, where the work pattern can be unpredictable with regular interruptions. Handling of complex and sensitive information and the need for confidentiality is integral to the post. The post holder will require a working knowledge of IT systems, in addition to knowledge specific to cardiology. The role will include booking patients for out-patient clinics, diagnostic tests and daycase admissions and handling GP, BHT clinician and patient queries. The post holder will be expected to work without direct supervision and will be expected to liaise and communicate as appropriate.
Main duties of the job
* To be knowledgeable about and understand medical terminology to ensure the correct transfer of clinical information onto the Careflow system.
* To have a thorough knowledge of work processes and practices around the Access Policy.
* To use the PTL to determine sequence of patients to be booked, adhering to the rules of the 18-week patient pathwa
* To have sufficient knowledge to enable the answering of non-complex clinical question
* Ensure that agreed booking processes are adhered to.
* Liaise with the cardiology teams to ensure appointments are arranged for day cases, out-patients and diagnostic procedures to ensure maximum use of available clinical capaci
* Ensure that patients are booked according to the priority designated by the referring clinician.
The post holder will need a flexible approach to ensure that booking processes are implemented, adhered to, maintained and improved.
The post holder will need to develop and maintain a close working relationship with consultants and their teams in order to ensure maximum efficiency in the management of the waiting list. Adherence to the rules agreed within the Trust’s Access Policy is a key requirement of the post.

EDUCATION, QUALIFICATIONS & TRAINING
* GCSE Grade C or above/ equivalent in English language and Maths
* Experience of booking appointments
EXPERIENCE
* Experience of working within the NHS in a similar setting
* Experience of working in an environment dealing with Highly confidential data
* Experience of and understanding of waiting list management

* Willing to travel between the 3 hospital sites within the trust
