Senior Legal Counsel – Head of Global Markets (Equities)
Location: London
A leading global financial institution is seeking a highly experienced Legal Counsel to head its Global Markets Legal (Equities) division. The successful candidate will act as the principal legal adviser to the Equities business, managing legal risk and partnering closely with senior business stakeholders across trading, structuring, and risk management.
Key responsibilities:
* Oversee legal risk management for the Equities division, including equity derivatives, prime brokerage (cash and synthetic), equity margin loans, and fund finance (NAV).
* Lead and develop a small team of specialist lawyers.
* Advise on the structuring, negotiation, documentation, and execution of equity transactions.
* Support new product development and advise on regulatory initiatives affecting the Equities business.
* Collaborate with Risk, Compliance, and other control functions to maintain a robust risk framework.
Candidate Requirements:
* Qualified lawyer with significant post-qualification experience in equities and structured products, gained in private practice or within a top-tier investment bank.
* Strong technical knowledge of ISDA and LMA documentation, regulatory frameworks, and market practices.
* Excellent communication, drafting, and stakeholder management skills.
* Proven leadership ability and experience managing junior lawyers.
