Therapeutic Family Practitioner – Reconnect

* Full Time contract until 30th June 2026 subject to re‑funding
* Location: Newcastle and surrounds
* This role is paid under the Social, Community, Home Care & Disability Services Award 2010- Level 5


The Opportunity

The Therapeutic Family Practitioner offers therapeutic interventions, including counselling, mediation, group work, and practical support to families. The goal is to break the cycle of homelessness and provide assistance to children, young individuals, and their families in preventing homelessness. The practitioner aims to stabilise the living situation of young people and enhance their engagement with family, education, and the local community.

* Tertiary Degree in Counselling, Social work, Psychology or similar
* Working with young people 12-18 providing outreach case management and family support. Some experience with group work in schools would be beneficial.
* Knowledge and understanding of the child protection framework within NSW, including Safe Home for Life and Domestic and Family Violence reform initiatives.
* A commitment to social justice, addressing the rights and responsibilities of children and young people who are homeless or at risk of homelessness.
* Knowledge and understanding of child and adolescent development and the impact of complex trauma on children and families.
* Experience and highly developed skills in assessment, family mediation, counselling and conflict resolution techniques with vulnerable children and families.
* Excellent knowledge, understanding and experience working with parents and children with complex needs who are at risk of homelessness.
* Experience writing clinical documentation, case notes, treatment plans and case plans.
