At Babcock, we’re working to create a safe and secure world. Join us as a Chief Engineer – Weapons and Communications at our Devonport site.
The role
As a Chief Engineer, you will provide technical leadership, oversight, and expertise to the Surface Effectors engineering teams across various programmes, including large calibre gun systems, close-in weapon systems for the Royal Navy, and C4I systems on small boats.
Responsibilities include:
* Providing governance and oversight of technical work to ensure compliance with customer requirements.
* Applying independent assurance, chairing design reviews, and reviewing deliverables.
* Supporting bids, business development, and representing Babcock externally.
* Managing technical risks and issues.
* Ensuring solutions are safe, legislative compliant, and meet all safety standards.
This is a full-time, hybrid role with 2 days per week onsite at Devonport.
Essential experience:
* Significant experience in Defence systems design, testing, and qualification using systems engineering approaches.
* Experience overseeing technical work, reviewing designs, and authorising releases.
* Ability to communicate complex concepts clearly to non-specialists.
Qualifications:
* Master’s degree in Electrical and Electronic Engineering (preferred).
* Chartered Engineer status at a relevant institution.
Security Clearance:
* Must be able to achieve and maintain SC security clearance.
