The Role

NHS Lanarkshire Cancer Nursing Service are seeking applications for highly motivated and enthusiastic individuals to join their Gynaecology, Head and Neck, Urology and colorectal Cancer Specialist Nursing teams as a cancer care navigator’s. Individuals who are committed to providing person centred care with a personal commitment to continuing professional development are welcomed to apply.

The role of the Cancer Care Navigator is a key member of the CNS team contributing to person-centred support throughout their pathways. Assisting to manage the increased uncertainty and anxiety associated with a cancer diagnosis, treatment and surveillance. The CNS team provides services across NHS Lanarkshire, delivering comprehensive person centred cancer care. In addition, the cancer care navigator as an integral member of the CNS team acts as the single point of contact for people affected by cancer facilitating patient and family support in partnership with third sector and local authority services. What we'll need you to bring

1. HND Business Administration or equivalent experience.
2. Experience within a hospital or similar healthcare setting.
3. Effective organisational skills and ability to manage complex situations.
4. Ability to develop and implement administrative systems and processes
5. Motivated with strong interpersonal and team working skills and an effective negotiator with the ability to influence others.
6. IT literacy skills, including data capture and complex networked systems
7. Good organisational skills with attention to detail and accuracy, with the ability to prioritise their workload and be proactive and work with minimal supervision.
8. Good communication skills with all levels of staff and members of the public.
9. Ability to remain calm under pressure and effectively handle multiple tasks, changing priorities and complex assignments
10. Expected to have a good understanding of person centred care.
11. The post holder will have good communication good organisational skills with the ability to prioritise their workload.
12. Knowledge of medical terminology and administrative procedures.
13. Motivated with strong interpersonal and team working skills and an effective negotiator with the ability to influence others.
14. Assertive and confident, with drive and enthusiasm. They will also possess a strong sense of urgency, be flexible, and thrive in a challenging environment.
15. Expected to work in a professional manner at all times.
16. Have a pleasant telephone manner, have a caring, friendly disposition and be highly motivated with strong interpersonal and team working/building skills.
17. Ensure mandatory NHSL training is relevant and up to date.

A driving licence is required, this must be a full UK/EU/EEA licence.

It would be great if you also have

18. Evidence of self-directed personal development relevant to uro-oncology or skin cancer or haemato-oncology
19. Evidence of training development in communication
20. Experience caring for / working with uro-oncology, skin cancer or haemato-oncology patients
21. Demonstrable experience working in a health care setting, specifically uro-oncology, skin cancer or haemato-oncology.
22. Experience working directly with patients and healthcare professionals in uro-oncology, skin cancer, haemato-oncology.
23. Experience of difficult and complex communication in clinical areas and via telephone in uro-oncology, haematology, skin cancer.
24. Experience managing independent workload under direction of line manager
25. Demonstrate a good understanding of role navigator in follow up and supportive care
26. General understanding of uro-oncology, skin cancer or haemato-oncology
27. Demonstrate a good understanding of third sector services for people with cancer, specifically skin cancer, haemato-oncology or uro-oncology.
28. Evidence of advanced IT skills – preferably hospital based administrative systems
29. Ability to prioritise patient and non-patient priorities
30. High standard of documentation / record keeping
31. Effective multi-disciplinary communication in uro-oncology, skin cancer or haemato-oncology
32. Effective listening skills

Contract type

Fixed Term (12 Months)

Full time

37 Hours

Please note this is a 12 months fixed term post. Where a post only has temporary funding and an existing member of NHS Lanarkshire staff wishes to apply, this will be treated as a secondment. The employee MUST already have written agreement from their line manager to be released on a secondment before applying for the post.

Location

This role will be based in Cancer Services within NHS Lanarkshire.
