Duty Solicitor Location: Farnborough, Hampshire Salary: £45,000 – £50,000 per annum Job Type: Full-time, Permanent Role Overview: We are seeking a qualified and accredited Duty Solicitor to join our Criminal Defence team. This is an exciting opportunity to work within a well-established firm known for its commitment to justice and client advocacy. The successful candidate will handle a varied caseload of criminal matters, attend police stations and magistrates’ courts, and provide expert legal advice and representation. Key Responsibilities: Attend police stations and magistrates’ courts as part of the duty rota. Provide legal advice and representation to clients under the Legal Aid scheme. Manage a caseload of criminal defence matters including theft, assault, drug offences, and public order offences. Prepare cases for trial and liaise with barristers, experts, and other professionals. Maintain accurate and timely case records using the firm’s case management system. Ensure compliance with Legal Aid Agency requirements and firm policies. Contribute to the development of junior staff and trainees where appropriate. Requirements: Qualified Solicitor with Duty Solicitor accreditation. Minimum 1 year PQE in criminal law. Strong advocacy skills and experience in Magistrates’ Court. Ability to work independently and manage a busy caseload. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
