Job Overview
We are looking for a Costs Draftsman/Lawyer to join our Court of Protection costs team in Sheffield. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced ambitious individual to join a growing national team. You will prepare Bills of Costs for assessment, interact with clients, provide advice and take instructions throughout the case, and may undertake wider costs drafting work from across the business, including drafting inter partes Bills of Costs. You will also provide technical support to fee earners and may be involved in training junior members of the team.
Responsibilities
* Prepare Bills of Costs for assessment.
* Interact with clients, provide advice and take instructions throughout the case.
* Draft inter partes Bills of Costs as required.
* Provide technical support to fee earners.
* Train junior team members.
* Manage caseloads and competing deadlines while maintaining attention to detail.
Qualifications & Experience
* Minimum of two years’ experience, either in‑house or for an external supplier of costs drafting services.
* Basic knowledge of legal procedures.
* Proven experience with IT systems and time‑recording procedures.
* Excellent communication skills and professional telephone manner.
* Ability to communicate clearly with stakeholders across the business.
* Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
* Desirable: financial or legal qualifications such as ACL qualification, ILEX Part 1 Year 1.
* Desirable: Experience in one or more legal departments, preferably with COP experience.
