Are you passionate about supporting students with hearing impairments? Are you experienced or qualified in BSL? An outstanding secondary school in Preston is seeking a dedicated British Sign Language Specialist Teaching Assistant to join their team. This role is to start in September and offers the opportunity to make a significant impact on students' educational experiences.
Your new role
As a BSL Specialist, you will play a vital role in supporting deaf pupils to access the curriculum and thrive both academically and socially.
Your responsibilities will include:
1. Using British Sign Language to facilitatemunication between pupils, staff, and peers.
2. Supporting students in small groups and 1:1 settings, adapting learning materials to meet individual needs.
3. Promoting independence and self-confidence in deaf learners.
4. Assisting in the planning and delivery of engaging lessons alongside class teachers.
5. Encouraging a positive and inclusive classroom environment.
What you'll need to succeed
Ideally, you will have a recognised qualification in British Sign Language (minimum Level 2, Level 3+ preferred). If not, previous experience working with deaf children or young people is essential. You will have apassionate and patient approach with excellentmunication and interpersonal skills.
