Overview
We are seeking a motivated and compassionate Occupational Therapist to join our Neurology Therapy Team on a fixed-term basis. This role involves working across inpatient, outpatient and community settings to provide high-quality care to patients with neurological conditions, helping to improve independence and quality of life.
Responsibilities
* Work as an autonomous practitioner across a variety of settings, supporting a caseload of patients with conditions such as Multiple Sclerosis, Motor Neurone Disease, Functional Neurological Disorder, Parkinson's Disease and other neurological disorders.
* Undertake comprehensive assessments of patients, including those with diverse or complex/multi-pathology presentations.
* Formulate and deliver an individual, goal-oriented treatment programme based on evidence-based practice.
* Provide training and advice on changes and adaptations to the patient's lifestyle considering environmental, emotional, physical, spiritual and social needs.
* Address occupational performance and skills deficits enabling the patient in areas of self-maintenance, productivity, education and leisure.
* Collaborate closely with the multidisciplinary team to provide holistic care.
* Maintain accurate patient records and contribute to clinical audits and research initiatives.
* Contribute to service and professional development, support student practice placements and supervise colleagues within the service.
* Provide specialist advice and training to other teams within the trust.
About the Role and Benefits
* Band 6, part-time, fixed-term contract (10 months) with salary £38,682 to £46,580 pro rata.
* Post posted 08 October 2025; based at Neurology Department York Hospital, Wigginton Road, York YO31 8HE.

Qualifications and Training
* Essential: Degree in Occupational Therapy; HCPC Registered Occupational Therapist; evidence of specialist post-graduate CPD activities; post-graduate training within a specialist area.
* Desirable: Experience using outcome measures to evaluate occupational therapy intervention; experience training/supporting/supervising others (including students); practice placement supervisor qualification.

* Ability to communicate complex information clearly in plain language, both verbally and in writing.
* Organised, able to prioritise workload and deliver results within timescales amid changing priorities and interruptions.
* Commitment to personal and team development and willingness to implement change and improvements.
* Ability to use initiative, exercise judgment, resolve problems and stay calm under pressure.
* Desirable: ability to transport equipment in rural areas and contribute to flexible rosters for profession-specific treatment.
