Overview
AT AK Teaching we are looking for compassionate and resilient SEMH Learning Support Assistants (LSA) and Teaching Assistants to support in an Alternative Provision in Middlesbrough. This is a fantastic opportunity to make a genuine difference in the lives of young people with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs.
Responsibilities
* Support students with SEMH needs on a 1:1 or small group basis, both inside and outside the classroom.
* Assist teachers in delivering engaging and inclusive lessons.
* Implement Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and behaviour management strategies.
* Foster positive, trusting relationships with students to support their social and emotional development.
* Monitor student progress and report observations to teaching staff and parents/carers.
* Assist with personal care and provide physical support if required.
* Contribute to creating a safe and supportive learning environment, encouraging resilience and self-confidence.
Skills and Qualifications
* Previous experience working with young people with SEMH needs, challenging behaviour, or additional needs.
* A calm, patient, and empathetic approach to supporting vulnerable learners.
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
* Ability to remain resilient and positive in challenging situations.
* Relevant qualifications in Education, Psychology, Social Work, or related fields (desirable but not needed).
* An enhanced DBS check (or willingness to obtain one).
* Qualifications in SEN support or Behaviour support such as Team Teach (or willingness to obtain the qualifications).
